Introduction and Background
Café Africa Tanzania (CATZ) was founded as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee in early 2009 in response to the need to increase the production of coffee and improve the livelihoods of small-scale coffee farmers in Tanzania. In response to regulatory changes in 2019, requiring the re-registration of all organizations that were formerly companies limited by guarantee, CATZ was registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with registration number 00NGO/R/1089 under Non-Governmental Act 2002
MISSION
“To be a catalyst for change among stakeholders in the coffee sector in Tanzania by providing a framework that enhances policy and practice and improves stakeholder livelihoods, in particular for smallholder farmers”
VISION
‘A revitalized coffee sector in Tanzania that is inclusive, productive, beneficial and fair’

Since these beginnings, CATZ has continued to gain respect and relevance in the sector, broadening its work to include the following:

- The development of Coffee Profiles for 52 districts.
- More than ten years of uninterrupted collaboration with TCB in organizing the National Coffee Conference (NCC), including the transition to virtual platforms during the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020.
- Support for TCB in the development of the National Strategy for the Development of the Coffee Industry (both the 2011 to 2021 plan and the follow-up strategy for the period 2020 to 2025).
- Promotion of inclusive and evidence based advocacy
- Develop and communicate sector updates
